Afghan Dawn News website quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the attack occurred on a road in the province's capital, Horst City. The explosion was caused by improvised explosive devices, and most of the casualties were local civilians.
A local police source confirmed the attack to Xinhua News Agency reporters. The source said that the attack occurred at noon that day, near a mosque in the city of Khost, and it is not yet certain the specific target of the attack. The wounded have been taken to hospital for treatment.

The province of Khost is located in the eastern border of Afghanistan.
